Alli, a drug for weight loss, nonprescription soon

Swissmedic authorized the marketing of OTC Alli medicines to aid weight loss. The anti-obesity pill is available without prescription in January. Alli is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline, is a half-dosed version of Xenical, sold by Roche. It works by preventing the intestinal absorption of one quarter of fat consumed by evacuating the surplus by natural means. It is intended for adults with a body mass index greater than or equal to 28.
